Lightbulb Would my Exclusiv become a death trap...

...if I did no mods other than have the engine mapped by triple 8?

    i.e standard 16" wheels/ standard brakes etc.

Car is 2006 facelift with 150 cdti engine.

    What do you think?

Nope, should be driveable fine in my opinion.... Thats all mine is... except sports suspension..

However... brakes are the only minor concern..... but you can upgrade to 314mm BIg Brakes for around £300 if you want to....

I'd seriously suggest changing the suspension. The Exclusiv will have the 'normal' suspension - same that's on the Elite. Fine for cruising down motorways but less than ideal for zipping around other roads - especially with the extra oomph of a remap.

Even if you put on the standard SRi kit, you'd see a big improvement and of course stuff like Irmscher or Eibach/Bilstein would improve it further.

Brakes also something to consider as well, but I'd do the suspension first. The standard suspension pitches and wallows and you'd feel very nervous about driving it quickly when it does. Doesn't inspire confidence whatsoever. I changed the suspension on my Elite to Irmscher kit and boy what a difference.

Best person to ask is 'Cameraman' as he has a tuning box and I think his car is the 'Design' model...

Suspension springs would be a very nice upgrade (costs around £150-£250) for good ones.

I dont think you car will be a death trap, but it will depend on how silly you drive it, of course

Like Spoons says, a sussy up wouldn't hurt, probably make it's stance nicer as well.

I'm in the same boat - have the 1.9 CDTI 150 Exclusiv... the extra money for an SRI would have put me in a year old SRI instead of a new Exclusiv.

I'm going for the Celtic Tuning Remap, which will give me between 200 & 215bhp, depending on what map I eventually go for. I like my track days, but my car is also my daily driver.
The 16in wheels have gone, and it's now sitting on Elite-spec 17's with 215/50-17 tyres on there (extra grip is noticeable already over the standard 215/55-16's).
Re. suspension... standard shocks, but go for some 888-supplied lowering springs (supplied by Eibach) - maybe not as low as Spoons recently got them... (-50mm?) but certainly 30mm lower.
The standard brakes are fine - when they wear out, go for some EBC sports pads (redstuff or greenstuff) - and if you're driving the car hard go for frequent brake fluid changes - this alone will help keep the brakes feeling like new.
Hope this helps. I intend on having the springs & remap done in time for my Nurburgring trip in May... so will report more then!

Stevel, if you went for a suspension upgrade, then your car will quite possibly have better suspension than a standard SRi

Got to agree with that. The SRI is nominally a few mm (10?) lower and allegedly slightly stiffer than a base spec Vectra - the shocks are the same.
