Default So embarrassed and feeling Guilty

Well the Vectra was sold and picked up today. We took a deposit last week and he paid the rest today.

We haven't touched her since getting the new car and so she has sat on the drive. It was sold to a friend and he didn't even want a test drive or look over the car let alone it's history as he said he knows I looked after her.

As he's about to leave he starts her up first time no issues, pulls forward to manoeuvre out the drive front gates and there's a thud and the front OS dropped. Had a look and the front spring had snapped

I said we would jack it up to inspect it further and sort something out to which he replied that "It was lucky you sold the car and it's not your problem now I will sort it when I get home" I said you can't drive it like that it will screw the tyre and it's dangerous. He said I'm off and on he went.

Got a call later to say he had made it home and the front spring had indeed snapped clean in 2. He had got no more the 1/2 mile before the front tyre popped (NCT 5 with less than 4k on it). I said I would look into getting him some new springs as I genuinely had no idea it was about to go but he won't have it as he said it wasn't my fault and I let him have it cheap. Hoping this won't affect our friendship as our wives and kids are friends as well.

Should I just buy them and take them round or would that seem too much?

So feeling a little guilty and embarrassed right now so chilling with a few beers and doritos.

I know what you mean, I'd offer a couple more times and even get some links, then if still saying no leave it...

I'm like that at min, I'm doing loads of stuff that "may" come up on mot (May 1st) as my mates taking the 2.2 end of March, stupid I know but feel like I need to make it pass, all this while doing bits on the CDTI that I'm letting him run for nowt lol... But I usually repair anything immediately if in doubt, hence usually always passing mots, so why stop now eh

Write him a cheque for the amount and post it through his box. It's then up to him if he cashes it or not...

That's a ****** but have been in a similar situation before, in the end he paid for the parts and I fitted it for free and changed the oil and filter as it was coming up for a service, it was also a spring that was the problem but didn't wreck the tyre, on an Astra G though!

Sorry didn't know bug ger was a swear word lol!

The wife sold her land rover discovery to one of her friends and a couple of months later the timing belt snapped, as far as we were concerned, yes they were (still are) friends its not our problem if it was a sale to anyone else we wouldn't pay towards the repairs so why would we.

Do the Owens get invited to many dinner parties lol...

But you're right, mile down road you'd tell a stranger to do one if they bought your car, unless they where on here of course

Lol were not ones for dinner parties

I've always said never to sell a car to friends or family but our friend was adimant that she wanted the car so we let her have it, I had even replaced the whole exhaust system for her before they took it as my wife didn't want any problems but you can't foresee a cambelt snapping.
I still service the car and do all their repairs for them but I didn't do the engine work as I had nowhere to do it.
