Don't Fit Cheap EGR Blanks!

Just re-blanked the CDTI after cleaning and had a few different styles to play with that I've collected recently, anyway...

I know Dan put on a decent full blank as had EML on when my mate bought it, I've just removed the genuine fiat one today, you know the holed version with the odd shape and orange rim/seal... So.

On removal there was what looked like 2 square open (non blanking) seals on the manifold side, why two i wondered... On closer inspection I found this!...



Its as thin as a coke can, printed on the reverse so probably made out of one, an wether it was a holed/full blank or not I'm unable to tell, but the heat has obviously obliterated it over the miles!...

I know my mate wanted the EML off when he bought it from Dan, and he's never touched an engine/spanners in his life, but he must have been to some Micky Mouse garages over the time of his ownership! Prob same one that offered to buy it for £400 when belt went no doubt...

Makes you wonder where its all gone. I remember using a celebrations tin to test the egr needed blanking and swapped it for a proper one after a couple of days and noting it was starting to burn through even then!

I know, scary stuff, all I can think is one garage has tried to bodge a holed blank, he's then had more issues so the fiat ones been fitted... One thing for him tho at least he didn't scrimp on services, I don't think Josh would know where to put oil in lol.

My new ones are at least 2mm thick, the oval closer to 3! Shouldn't heat up too much tho as blanking other end people rly in a few weeks when redo the tensioner

Tell you what I did tho, snapped the lower bolt that also hold the engine cover nut! Need to get that out and new bolt ASAP...
