    confused Boot lid adjustment

    Hi guys,

Need your help again! tried to do a simple thing I thought and made a mess of it :-(.

There was a slight rattle coming from the boot at low speed on rough roads. Read the forum and decided to adjust the boot catch to stop the rattle.

So took off the plastic cover, loosen the screws, pushed the catch down (only went a few mm) and tightened back up. Tried closing the boot, closed ok but could still feel little movement when i try to move it up and down in closed position.

Then tried adjusting the rubber stops which I could not move by hand at all. Took a rachet and tried unscrewed the bigger hex thing on one of them that holds the rubber. It came out eventually but it seems I broke some part of it and cannot understand how it gets adjusted. It doesn't go back in properly now but somehow I have got it stuck!

Sat back in the car later on for a ride and guess what, the boot door open light on dashboard stay on. Tried opening and closing the boot a few times but light still on. Drove a bit and the boot rattle is much worse than before!!!

    So the question is:

    1. Why does the boot light on dashboard stays on? What could have I screwed here?
    2. How to actually adjust the rubber stoppers? I need a simple layman explanation how to adjust them without breaking them. Also as I seem to have broken a bit of one, are they easy/cheap to get and from where?

Thanks in advance guys. This little thing is driving me nuts now.

To adjust the rubber stoppers u need to turn the big nut looking the and the rubber grommet pushes in and out it down unscrew.

Mark - How much to turn the big nut for rubber stops before it breaks? And will the rubber stops be able to move in/out after the big nut is moved? At the moment I just can't move the rubber stops and ended up turning the big nut too much trying to get it out and think broke something in it as I can't get it in properly.

Critch - That makes sense - thanks i will try it. But if I move it back upwards, how will i stop the rattle which i wanted in the first place. Maybe the rubber stops should do the job.

It's about trying to find the right balance between boot being in the right place as you say you'll more than likely have to adjust rubber stops aswel.

failing that turn the music up a bit

you shouldn't need to turn it much if you turned it too much you would have broke the clips that hold it to the boot like what i did there is 2 pins you push up into the lid to take it off have a look see if there there if they are u have moved the holders inside it and thats why you cant get it in proper you will need to take it right off the lid to sort it and if you push the pins in you will need new ones of find something else to go in the holes to hold it.

Or jam them fully in and get some rubber furniture stoppers for the other side...

Mark - Looks like I have broken the pins on one of mine (thankfully haven't touched the other yet!). Are these cheap to get from Vauxhall and easy to fit back?
