vectra cdti breeze coil on sri and really low, why would this be?

ive been messing around withthe ride height on my 2004 vectra sri dti, i managed to get hold of some rear coils springs from a 2005 cdti breeze and fitted them but ended up with the rear lower than the original sri ones, it looks ok but am getting a bitof a clonk on slightly bumpy roads only from the passenger side, rather annoying is the ride height is perfect. heres a some pics. front is lowered 45mm on pi springs and the rear on the cdti breeze springs, as you can see looks pretty level.iphone 5 039 (640x480).jpgiphone 5 042 (640x480).jpgiphone 5 040 (640x480).jpg

tbh its a stupid idea have two diffrent spring types rear will be lower as dti is heaver on the rear tha a cdti i think

DTis are MUCH heavier on the FRONT than 1.9 CDTis.

The one and only engine in the whole Vectra range that's heavier than the DTi is the 3.0 V6 CDTi.

why is it a stupid idea, surley as long as the springs are the same on each axle then its not really a problem. why would a dti be any heavier on the rear than any other hatchback vectra c, the front i can understand because of differnt weight engines. the rears are all the same surley.

What i would be worried about is the fact that you have put Standard NON sports springs on the back and are running Lowered springs on the front ........ Yes the ride height may look good but the springs really need to be from the same stable i.e. either all uprated or all SRi or all standard spec.
What dampers are you running ????? As you should really be running short stroke uprated fronts with those springs as the standard SRi ones will be torn to pieces by the springs in no time at all, Then if you are running standard non SRi rear springs you should have the matching rear dampers as they are all designed to work with each other .......... But then you will have an imbalance front to rear in suspension performance !!!!!!

Best bet is to stick with the tried and tested route of Eibach springs with either SRi dampers or Bilstein B4's all round !!!!


As for the knocking at the rear could be the top arms have some play in them.

as long as they are in pairs per axle set they will be fine.. (but as drinky says performance will be different due to what they were meant for, ie SRI, elite etc etc). the clonk could well be the shocker bottom'ing out, they do tend to wear quicker when lowered greater than 30mm, solution would be shorter shocks.

as for the rear springs being lower, they can compress over time if they have been used daily with a heavy load in the boot, happened on mine.... rears afaik should all be the same weight rating between hatchbacks.

I confirm rears are all the same for all hatchbacks (with still the same standard / sports / lowered sports distinction).

Signums also share the same ones as Estates.

BTW, the GM catalog seems to state different part numbers for "sports" and "lowered sports" cars. Is this difference real ? Vauxhall SRi are said to be lowered by 1.5 cm from standard, where Opel GTS are said to be lowered by 2 cm (it's clearly stated in the TIS). So... Are there really two kinds of sports suspensions ?

How much by, there wasn't much between John IS3's old DTI and my old CDTI.

Stick up your axle weight and we'll check.
