You sure they have chrome surrounds and not silver? IIRC chrome surrounds only came with certain Signum models, I know as I've just sourced a set for myself.

Have you also considered the difference in mileage?
Mileage is stored on the clocks so they'll display the mileage from whatever car they've been in and afaik the mileage can't be changed on used clocks, only brand new ones.

SRi clocks with the silver rings are ten a penny mate, have a look on ebay or local breakers and you'll find the correct set for your car, then all you have to do is remove the needles, fascia card and it's backing plastic surround and fit them to the PCB of your existing clocks, then you'll still be displaying the correct mileage but have the desired look of new "sporty" clocks

The earlier vec didn't have chrome or silver - or it was only the SRI ones that did. I think all of the petrols speedo's go upto 170mph? Only the diesel speedos go upto 160mph. I stand corrected otherwise.

The later elites and designs had chrome.

The clocks in my car are made up of 2 different sets lol, I had the std SRi clocks with silver rings, mine also had a chunk missing from the clear acrylic on the front, so bought another set of clocks with the chrome rings (also from a facelift) I liberated the chrome rings, backing card and acrylic cover from the new set and fitted to my old set, nice new clocks with chrome rings, facelift card and nice new acrylic cover, mileage and blue SMD conversion untouched, also added the carbon fibre surround to the clocks

I can vouch for that, I was driving down the M62 at 150mph only last week when Ant suddenly appeared in my rear view out of nowhere.

Well, he shot past me as if I was stationary, I can only guess at his speed, but I'm thinking it was probably in excess of 200mph

No Preface Vec could get anywhere near 170mph so what was the point in VX putting them in? Same as everything we do to our car, because we can. I put the 170mph clocks in my 1.8 because they look far far better than the very basic ones that came fitted to my LS. The Chrome rings, the way its back lit, the needles, all a huge improvement.

Naw mate, the 1.8's was only 160mph.

To the OP, just strip the needles and face of your own unit and swap the 170mph face, needles and rings over from the doner clocks. There is a how2 for this and it is very easy.
