    Default Yahoo! Done It!!!

So My poor performance, blown turbo and everything I could think of checked and changed.

Yesterday I reported of a Loud Hissing noise. It was the DPF pressure sensor pipe. Blown to pieces as the DPF is blocked. An obvious problem as I ruled out DPF due to the car doing daily long journies to commute. I whipped the DPF off and took it for a spin round the block. Wow! I now remember how it used to feel.

So options now and I need some good advice here.

    Do I:

Clean DPF with presure hose and re-fit

Drill out its guts and re-fit

Get a new piece of straight pipe and replace it

Will the last 2 require a remap? I am looking for the cheapest option at the moment as I have spent all my money on the new turbo.

Can I bash the insides out and re-fit it without a remap?

And a note to all, if you loose your performance and cant find the problem check the DPF before it blows your turbo!

I smashed out the insides on mine and re-fitted. It then looks from the exterior like it should - this may be important for the more recent MOT rules, not sure. BUT, you need to have a remap to remove the regen cycle. I paid £300ish for the remap on my Vectra, but that was including an EGR delete and a economy/power map too. Well worth it in the long run as I used to get 45mpg and now get 50+mpg! Have passed MOT since too, no trouble!

Bash the inside of it out, and get it mapped out.

    Ahemm gentlemen...........

Carefully remove the DPF core material making sure not to damage the outer casing.
Wear a mask a proper filter one if possible and goggles.
You can soak the DPF with water first to keep the dust down, but it can splash black/grey wet soot/ash all over you as you carefully bash it out.

    Then get it mapped off.

A lot of the guys on my pug forum throw a lot of petrol into the dpf and burn the hell out of it to clear it.

Thanks folks. As I can't afford the remap yet, will it do any harm to CAREFULLY remove the guts and run it without remapping until it can be afforded?

Do not run the car without a remap as it will try and regen and cause all sorts of problems including piles of smoke.

You should be able to get a map which will include DPF and EGR delete and performance increase for £220

Sure I read somewhere that if you clamp off the small pipe going to the pressure unit it lets the ecu think there is low pre pressure in the filter. That said the saturation level will still increase as the mileage goes up and a regen will still happen regardless of the sensor.

Thanks merikiito, I have been quoted £295 at a local place.

I might blast the DPF with a jet wash as a short term measure to run the car

Just be careful with the pressure washer as when we took my mates DPF it had collasped in the middle. We only found out when we started to bash the inside out and it all just gave way
