Default MOT Failure for having no Cat fitted 1.9 CDTi 150

    Hi all,

car failed its MOT today for not having the main CAT. I had it removed about 5 years ago when I had a straight through exhaust fitted. Its managed to pass up till now but have now been told its a fail.

Going to get the old one sleeved and put back in as they will not be able to tell if its complete or not as it passes the emissions test with flying colours as it is.

Got to do the same for the Signum now as the DPF was removed and a straight pipe put in last year.

All seems pointless as there will be nothing in the CAT so its just for show and to pass the MOT.

Anybody now about this new rule about having to have a CAT?

As far as im aware if your car was manafactured with a cat then it must be present to pass new mot rules

Fill in the appeal form. A catalytic converter is only required "on vehicles that qualify for a full cat emissions test". Diesels do not come under that, they are only required to pass a smoke test last I heard.

Only vehicles "Subject to a FULL emmisions test" are required to have a cat present. Diesels are not subject to a full emmisions test only a smoke test and are therefore do not have to have a cat fitted.

    I'd challenge it

Have they got new workers there? As this can affect the testing too, if he does not know what real regulations he should be following, like the others said, he prob try to do full emission test which is not required on diesel, hence reason we pay less road tax than petrol.

    7.1

    3. On vehicles that qualify for a full cat emissions test, check the presence of the catalytic converter. Reason for Rejection. A catalytic converter missing where one was fitted as standard.

I would definantley fill in an appeals form.
