Default 1.5litres of oil over max mark, help

Got a mate who's a taxi driver, his car had to have 1.5litres of oil drained but its very very thin? Smelt like diesel to me? Water tank is clear? And he assures me it hasn't had more oil out it to it and the levels had been ok since it was last changed.

his glow plug light has been flashing too while smoking so guessed a regen as its a 57 estate diesel.???

Sounds like fuel getting into the sump via the pistons/bores

Sounds like lots of regens worth of diesel in the sump to me. Get it changed and just keep an eye on it.

Can diesel really get chucked in there because of a failed regen??? Don't think it's the rings/cyclinders as it runs fine???

Because of the way the injection timing is changed during the regen it can cause diesel to mix with the oil system. Doesn't have to be a failed regen. Just sounds like it's done a fair few. Possibly with the DPF getting older and if it does a fair chunk of round town driving it'll be doing a regen more often. Yes the flashing glowplug light is showing it's doing a regen. It was removed on a software update because people were taking the car back to the dealers complaining of a fault when that was all it was. Just warning the car is doing a regen.

Get it looked at before the engine 'runs away' and blows itself to bits.

    Sounds like a software issue.

Sounds like a DPF issue - assuming it is one of the unfortunate ones to have one.

It's a estate so sure it will have the DPF, 300k miles on it! Can't believe the garage just took some oil out and said try that!!! I told him to get a oil change ASAP as it any be doing it any good! Is tech 2 the only way to force a regen?

Because he's a taxi hell be doing exactly the type of driving cars with dpfs hate.

the software that cannot be mentioned will also do a forced regen.
