    Default Check Control Fog Lights

I want to remove the front fog lights from the check control on my Vectra C 1.9 8v, reason being some one has rewired them and although they work fine the check control states bulb failure and warning light is on all the time. I have Tech2 available and want to know if they can be removed from the check control with Tech2.

Tech2 Reports that both Left and Right Fog lights are open circuit, at this time I do not want to have to mess around and rewire these correctly I have enough to do.

Do I need to change Variant coding to remove this?

Only way to do it is to change the Front Fog light variant code to "not present" in the UEC, but then they wont work. No way to stop the bulb check feature im afraid.

If I do as you say will the Check still dispay that the fog light bulbs have failed or will it be reset??? I am assuming that the fog lights are not wired correctly as the Tech 2 reports them as being open circuit although they both work.

I have seen Vectras without fog lights fitted they must have different variant coding.

Has anyone ever seen a list of the various variant codes avaiable????

For Foglights its Present or Not Present. The bulb check wont check a circuit that's set to not present.

Why not by a front bumper loom for your car out of a scrappy or ebay? 'Rewiring' sounds odd as all you need is the front bumper wiring loom that is fit for fogs - ie make sure you get the correct one for your car. I assume your car has factory fitted fog lights btw.

Not sure if factory fitted as I said it is a long story. I bought the car in 2008 at around 18 months old, everything fine, until it was stolen and crashed, repair station found it had been a CAT D write off and had not been repaired correctly, I know I should have checked that myself, the insurance company refused to cover the cost of repair until the original structural damage was corrected. I agreed with the repair garage that I would cover that cost and the car was repaired and my insurance company finally paid out. Subsiquent checking with the OP-??? revealed that the ECU's had conflicting manufacturing dates, some as expected earlier than the date of registration and some after not a problem, they may have been changed at some point. But I actually suspect it may well be a bit of a cut and shut or at the very least a real cowboy job.

The selling dealer (Arthur Daley type) showed me the reciepts from the auction he got it from, the auction site claimed they had no responsibility, I could not trace the history at all, it started life as a leased company vehicle.

As for the fog lights and the suggestion of a loom, then yes maybe, but they work, but as I have stated Tech2 states open circuit, check system shows bulb failure, but they work. That tells me they are not wired through the correct system but through switch relay and a ignition on live feed.

The fogs are not actually my priority at the moment its other fault lights like Steering and Airbags that will fail the MOT, which is due. See my other threads about those.
