Default whats normal time for thermostat to warm up engine on 120 8v

changed the thermostat the other week (right bar steward)
but have been slightly surprised that it takes as long for the temperature needle to start moving as before.
it does now however keep going through to 86* but i was expecting it to warm up quicker considering, plus maybe my old thermostat wasnt totally shagged, just didnt get the temp high enough.it has however definately improved the mpg which i am happy about.
what are you guys doing mileage wise before it starts moving?

About 5-6 miles it starts moving my drive to work is all down hill so the car really is at 1400 rpm when i drive home up the hill it warms up much faster, plus it's parked outside all the time & the cars in a gargae may not get as cold as been outside.

Sounds like yours is shot, if it doesn't make it to 86 then needs replacing

i changed mine for the same reason mate, didnt notice last winter when i bought it,as first deisel and knew no better tbh.if oyu got a 150 its an easy fit but the 120 is a right pain.make sure you get the uprated thermostat and watch your mpg go up as well as making it a tiny bit smoother on pcik up when warmed up properly.
seems as though mine is the norm then, plus now using 2 stroke oil as well after clearing out the throttle body,so gotta be happy

My heater starts to blow warm air on a cold morning after about 1/2 a mile, temp guage only gets up to 90deg after about 5 miles, outside temp 4deg - is this all about normal for a 2007 sri 1.8?

Diesels do take a longer to get up to temp compared to petrol engines
