Google nhs jobs... There are vacancies for trainee paramedics,, unfortunately nowadays the only way in is to do a university paramedic degree which takes 3 years,, you go out on shifts on ambulance during the 3 years and you get paid a percentage of the wage usually 80%...when I started 20 years ago , you started on outpatients , ferrying the old dears in and out,, then applied for emergency technician course ,, 2 years post qualified you then applied for paramedic training so all in all still around the 3 year mark to become paramedic... Which is what the uni courses are.... ..I'll get some finer details for you,, go for it though,, never a dull moment and I still enjoy it..

When I was deployed to Bosnia in 97 we had a Manchester paramedic with us as a TA medic... his excuse for volunteering was 'it's the first time I've not needed to wear a vest in ages and no-one's tried to shoot, stab or bottle me the whole time I've been here'.

    ... never a dull moment

Fortunately here in West Midlands we don't use stab vests..... Yet.....it's an interesting and rewarding job , however, it's not all excitement and trauma ...... You do deal with the problems of drugs, alcohol, violence, mental health and other people's misery on a daily basis..
