Default 1.9 CDTI - What pipe is this?

Poor pic but its the pipe in the lower part of the pic, comes off the heat shield and has a protective braided hose...

Had some white smoking from that area when started after cleaning and re seating the injectors, did get cleaning products everywhere like, cleared after few mins...

That is a vacuum pipe that goes to the actuator on the turbo

If its the pipe that only just visible further down the engine block covered in the braided hose that's pipe that carries exhaust gases to the EGR valve at the back of the engine. It gets pretty hot so anything spilt on there would burn off quickly. On the cautious side they've been known to split and leak exhaust gases.

    Thanks

Yeah the lower one, not the boost pipe...

Ah, makes sense now. Might have knocked the pipe when blanked the EGR other week... Is cracking common and are they easy to replace?

Can it be blanked on the front side and lose the pipe?

if you already have the egr blanked then buy a stainless steel blank and blank it at the manifold, it the egr pipe is damaged/cracked then it wont matter as the blank will be before the pipe.

i keep saying im gonna sort it out with mine

Will it be the same sized oval blank for the turbo side, slightly convinced that's where it's smoking from...

Do rads have to come off to get to it?

Just got an email from a supplier of the EGR blanks, gasket can be fitted either side...

How does the EGR cooler work? Are they prone to leaks on the CDTI's?
