Been to the German Embassy this morning and got the wife sorted with a VISA. Processed in 20 minutes which was remarkably efficient. Got to go back in the morning to pick up the passports.

I tend just to use bank machines over there - maybe get a hundred pounds worth beforehand???

Yep, I had my bank deliver £100 worth to me, that should cover all the odds and sods, food etc.
Any fuel can go on the credit card, more protection should someone try and rip it off.
And can top up off the hole in the walls if needs be.
