    Default Hand Brake Needs Tightend

    HI.
I have a 2003 vectra c 1.8. I am just wondering what the best method to adjust my hand brake would be. I need to make it tighter.

I know the handbrake is a self adjusting one however the cable seems to be to slack and even when i reset the adjuster inside the car, it goes right back.

What is the simplest way to tighten the handbrake cable??

Please help as i have my MOT very soon

    Thanks

Self adjusting, and you've reset the adjuster. I'm afraid it's new cable time

I actually feared it would get loose after fitting new brakes (used 314/292 mm calipers, brand new discs and pads), but it actually self-tightened over time.

Try to pull the handbrake level like crazy, and next time it should get just as tight, pulling it a bit less far.

If it doesn't, then you'll have to change the whole set, unfortunately.

There was also a topic about adjusting or resetting the mecanism here, maybe it could help you :
