Default 40 mph motorway speed limit!!!whe

When gettin ready for work had news on and they were saying that proposals are being put forward to drop the motorway speed limit from 70mph to 40mph. My personal opinion is "what a joke" if that goes through our country will be rediculous on all levels! Attatched a link to an article in the Daily Record

Nothing unusual there, there have been such proposals before
Equally, there are already reduced speed sections with 60mph and 50mph in Scotland
Furthermore, there are many sections with 40mph and 30mph in Scotland

10mph isn't possible on a Motorway, the Special Roads Act (and their relevant Traffic Orders) doesn't allow anything less than 30mph
However, I have seen 5mph on many trunk roads, and once on the A1 "Walking pace"

Thats what the article says, the 40mph is coming in for Scotland as the UK looks at increases to 80mph

This seems rather at odds with the proposals currently going through which will see some speed limits raised in Scotland
Sounds to me like this action group are looking at alternatives and this is one they have found, as permitted within the existing Special Roads Act
However, it still hasn't been debated yet so it would be at least three years before applied (and most likely delayed as the next government in Scotland would need to approve it)

A truly daft idea. Common sense and practicality sacrificed on the altar of contrived expediency. Motorways are about smooth traffic flow (as far as is possible) not artificial congestion which does nothing for the environment.
