This morning the fan in the car decided it would only work on the fastest setting and not on any of the others!! as the fan works on the fastest in hoping its not the fan itself!! so could it just be the knob switch thats at fault?

Sounds like the fan speed resistor has gone, one in the link above. If you do a search on the forum for heater motor resistor you should get more info on fitting etc.
As above mate check your scuttle tray drain isnt blocked aswell as this is usually what is causing you the problems an it will just happen again and again it thats the case
You can fix it yourself for pennies.

Mine broke the same only number 4 would only work I bought a resistor pack at Vauxhall for 30pounds but you can buy them on eBay cheaper I did a poll on this
If you go to the search part click on advanced and type poll scuttle tray you will find more info there

Well it's a RA23A rated one.
