Default Central Heating System Cleansing using Fernox Stuff - Help Please

    Guys,

I keep getting air in the house central heating system, mainly in the upstairs radiator.

I had the engineer come and look at it yesterday and he said its basically hydrogen (air) and it could be down to a mucky system.

I think he is right as when I bleed the rad's I always get black much out of a couple of them.

Anyway, he has left me with some Fernox system cleaner to run through for about a week and then some Fernox protector to leave in there permanently.

Anyway, I tried pouring this in today via the radiator (by taking out the bleed bolt entirely) having completely drained the system. HOWEVER, whatever im pouring in comes straight back out. How on earth do I get this stuff into the system and get it to stay in there and not pour back out??

    Any is appreciated.

    Thanks.

Normally what you've done is the easiest way to get cleaner and/or inhibitor into the system. Did you leave the lockshield valve & trv open when you drained the system? It sounds like the radiator is still full of water & when you are trying to inject the cleaner there is nowhere for it to go.

Is it better to do from an upstairs radiator or does it not matter??

If the system is completely drained then I don't think it would matter. Did you close any of the radiator valves before you drained the system?

I drained the system from the drain valve at the end of a pipe downstairs. All valves were open. I tried to pour into kitchen radiator. Should I try from an uptairs radiator??

If you can't get it in a downstairs radiator then defo try an upstairs one. They should be the first ones to empty when you drained everything.

Hiya mate, if your sure you'v drained the system, then take the compression bolt off of the 15mm pipe where your radiator connects on, (On an upstairs radiator) try pouring it in there with a small funnel if needs be.

Hi, you only need to drain one rad to do this, best to use an upstairs one. Connect your hose to a drain off point dwnstairs and open it up. Then, once the hose is running, open the bleed on your chosen rad, this should completely drain this rad of water. Then remove the bleed plug completely from the rad AND the blank plug on the opposite side. Then, using a small funnel, add the chemical into the rad (doesn't matter which side) you should now find that you can get the fernox in.
