    Default Indicators not self-cancelling

    Hi folks

Yesterday, my indicators stopped auto-cancelling after turning left or right (had to cancel them with the stalk).

Trawling through forums I gather that the problem could be down to a plastic lug in the stalk (which is 'nudged' as the steering wheel returns to the centre position) being damaged or broken.

So a new stalk would seem to be a good place to start.

The dealer who is fitting a new stalk later this week has told me that it could be the dreaded CIM. I just hope replacing the stalk cures it.

I plugged in OPCOM and got the following DTC codes:-

    U2105 - CANBUS ECM*Message Range/Performance Error (CIM Error)

B1020 - SRS Steering Angle Sensor Signal Circuit Range/Performance Error (EHPS Error)

Clearly the above Errors would appear to point to the CIM and/or the Steering Angle Sensor.

I wonder whether the above errors have been caused by the failure of the Indicators to self-cancel.

Any comments/suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

Mine did this briefly after the new CIM was fitted
They simply pulled each stalk out and then reinserted them

hey John Lost, does your car have ESP?

It does sound like the CIM to me, the steering is reporting a problem with the CIM and the indicators arent self cancelling as you said... My money is on the CIM,
Plasma's Tech2 services are now open and able to provide services

    No ESP - mine's a facelift non-V6.

Yes looks like you're right. I've been told that the stalk is simply a switch and the self-cancelling function is triggered by a devilishly clever magnet on the rotator which interacts with a sensor in the CIM, and not the rotator mechanically nudging a lug in the stalk like in the good old days.

So it's the CIM - installed under warranty 2½ years ago.

    Damn I hate clever technology

I read that the Steering Angle Sensor is located on the CIM if you have ESP, and I assume the TC/ESP light is triggered by the problem you appear to have.
