Default 2.2 Directs and E10 Petrol

As Vauxhall have stated that the 2.2 Direct engines must not be run on the new E10 petrol that we are to be stuck with owing to the new EU rules are the 2.2 Directs's going to be made obslolete this year.
The only answer I can find is that they will have to be run on premium unleaded but garages have said that they will not have the forecourt space for extra pumps to sell it.
Does anybody know what the actual problems with E10 will be and are there any modifications that can be made?

High Ethanol content petrol. It eats the injector seals on the 2.2 apparently.

We will have to use the 98 / 99 RON unleaded such as shell v power or bp ultimate.

If it's only the injector seal that get eaten why can't they be changed?

From the Vauxhall web page here http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/tools/faqs.html
Q: Can my car use E10 ethanol fuel?

A: E10 fuel is cleared for use in all petrol-engined Vauxhall vehicles excluding models with the 2.2 litre direct injection petrol engine (code Z22YH) used in Vectra, Signum and Zafira models. Customers of these vehicles should continue to use regular unleaded or premium unleaded petrol.
    So what's changed? .............................

Petrol retailers are saying they will not have room to keep a regular unleaded pump so as @Paulwr said 2.2 owners will have to use super unleaded which is remaining at 5% Ethanol for the mean time.

Are you sure that is the case, as ethanol is often used as an octane booster, E100 having an octane of 110.

Similar with Diesel fuel with Biodiesel being adding,Biodiesel has a higher centane rating than mineral based diesel, and so aids combustion reduces diesel knock/clatter.

I would have thought E10 would not really cause any short term issues, and even longer term I would have thought it wouldn't be noticed on most cars, early car did have issues with the fuel lines perishing as rubber based hoses become brittle and crack with alcohols.

Can only quote what I read in AE. Heres the link. Clicky Here

BP and Tesco have already confirmed to Auto Express that affected owners would be restricted to super unleaded on their forecourts.
Just google it, plenty of articles about this. They recon that in this country as many as 700,000 cars could be effected.

Im quite sure VX wouldnt be saying it was unsafe to use if it wasnt.

Yes, this would be our issue too as we only have two tanks for Unleaded; GL Unleaded and UL Unleaded

I have no yet received the Safety Certificates for a change in GL Unleaded, but as soon as one appears I will look into this further
