Lightbulb Funny "TICKING" Sound when cold

Hi Folks, hope you can help!

I have a 2.0l Turbo 2006 vectra sri and when i start it up from cold there is a funny "TICKING" sound coming from the engine somewhere. This sound goes away when the engine has warmed up but it is pretty load to start with and very noticable.

Any ideas what this could be?

    Many thanks

    Jon

I'm not certain but it could be either a noisy tappet (before the oil gets to it in sufficient quantity) or something like an auxiliary or timing belt tensioner or idler pulley ball bearing. My GSi does it too and I think mine is a minor belt issue. I shall be doing both belts as soon as I can make the time. Paul

I had this on my old vectra b Sri... It turned out it was the exhaust manifold blowing due to a snapped stud... Load tappy noise then gone when the engine warmed as the steel/iron expanded.... I'd look at your manifold or manifold gasket..

    Cheers for the replys fellas.

I would say it sounds more like a bearing or something than a load tapping noise to be honest. I will look in to everything that has been suggested though thanks.

The noise itself is coming from the left hand side of the engine bay (about the best i can tell ya)?

That's the end with the auxiliary belt and timing belt. Paul

    2.0 turbo has a timing chain doesn't it ?
if so then I would start by having that checked as we all know what happens with chains on the 2.2
