Default What a difference a fuel filter makes

Been suffering running issues and flat-spots for a couple of months now in my DTI. Initially i thought it might be since i blanked off the EGR a few months back, but then i realized i'd totally forgot to change the fuel filter when i serviced it 2 months ago.

Popped the new one in earlier and bled the fuel lines, and it's up and running. Took it out for a drive and the change is amazing! I never thought something like that would cause flat-spots, but hey-ho i'm happy again

Woth doing if you're experiencing the same, only £10 for a new one

Same on my CDTi. Fuel filter was half full of black gunge when I changed it yesterday. Hell of a difference now

Nice one! At least your bleeding procedure only consists of turning the ignition on and off a few times lol

Mine was a case of crack off the injector unions to bleed the air out

Out of interest, did your filter smell of dog kaka? I did one for a friends CDTI and it reeked of it!

Was strange. Started immediately when first fired up. Revved a couple of times then left running for 20 minutes while I put all my tools away.

Stopped it, then 5 minutes later, it took 3 x 20 seconds cranks to fire up. Now it starts quicker than it ever has done though

Not sure what it smelt of, wasn't nice though!!

How do the filters come off? I done a service on mine 2 months ago but couldn't get it out of the plastic cage thingy. I got a 2004 2.0t Siggy. Cheers peeps

The casing should pull straight out of the metal crashbox, but i found it's easier to give the casing a wiggle as you pull it upwards. From there, the filter can be removed easier

Disconnect the 2 fuel lines and then slide it out of the rubber holder. There is a clip to push back so that it'll slide out

Cheers John, I didn't want to disconnect the fuel hoses in case I couldn't get it out and waste a load of fuel. Ill do it next weekend.
