    Default Numberplate lights

Does anyone know if/when the numberplate lights on a 55 plate full can preface go out? I've wired up some leds I have in the front bumper which were previously wired into the sidelights, so the leds light up on unlock along with the numberplate, which is what I wanted. I know that after unlock the numberplate lights stay on for so long and then go off, but is this the same when you start the car and drive it? Or do they stay on all the time? I usually always drive with sidelights on so this question is pretty irrelevant, but I was just wondering :-)

Surprisingly, the whole time I had them wired into the sidelight circuit, they never flickered at all, and don't flicker now either when they're off. Don't think they'll flicker now cos the numberplate lights aren't in the bulb check as far as I know, at least when one of mines had blown it didn't bring anything up on the dash.

So does that mean that they stay on for a while when driving, then go off once the boot deactivates itself?

The boot can remain unlocked and they'll go off themselves after a couple of mins, but will come on again if the boot is opened.

They still flicker I've done the same with mine a while ago wired them up from number plate to sidellights and got the original sidellights piggy backing and they flicker for around 30 seconds after the car is locked, when driving with them off but this don't bother me as I always drive with lights on
