    Default Power From Cigarette Lighter

I was using for the first time this weekend my cigarette lighter to power up a little portable tv. I could only get the power to the TV with the ignition switched on - does the Vectra not have an "aux." position to run such items or is my car faulty?

Nope, the cig lighter is only powered with the ignition on. You can wire it up so that it is permanent live - just involves taking apart a fair bit of trim/panels.

I did it on mine. I'll see if I can find the thread.

That was to run a permanent live from the front fuse box to the front and rear 12V sockets.

Duncan any chance of a how to on the wiring like in your above pic, also can you tell me how to strip[ the trim down to this stage, as it will be easier to work with, and give more options for the routing for the wiring.

I think there is another simpler way, correct me if i'm wrong btw.

Get a spare acc socket, these can be a single or right up to a 6 plug one.

Take out the glove box and cut the end that would normally plug into the ciggy socket off, run the cable through the rubber grommet behind the glove box directly to the battery, add an in line fuse to this cable as well to replace the one in the end you cut off, then it's just a case of where you want to locate the sockets, in the front it could be in the glovebox, or fitted like an old phone kit to the side of the centre console, if it's needed to run to the rear, tidy the cable away in the console and maybe mount the sockets in the bottom of the centre console bucket. hth.

    is it that simple?

Any one got a pic of this.... Not sure about butchering one of these, would it be easier just to hard wire something inside the car?
