Oil Light...

Was driving back up the M3 after having been in Hampshire for the day with work, and just noticed an oil light - orange in colour - with a few squiggly lines under it. No book with me, just a number for the salesman! Anyhow, I reckoned it was the oil level light - I have now had the car about 10 weeks, and have done 3800 miles in it. I know, shame on me for not having checked the oil level (and tyre pressures come to that) - I just keep the wash bottle topped up Light went out & didn't reappear after I left it for 5 mins.

I reckon I'll do an oil change myself on it - 15 minutes & a lot of peace of mind afterwards.

What oil does anyone recommend (bear in mind I'm not paying dealer rip-off prices for oil - so Halfords will be providing), and how much of it do I need (with oil filter, of course)? As the sig says, it a new 1.9 CDTI 16v (150).

use VX's ownbrand 5w30 fully syth...it's actually cheaper than helfrauds.. you'll have to go in there for a filter anyway..

doesnt sound like an oil light, get the dealer to plug it in and read codes.

The only indicator with squiggly lines is the Coolant Temperature. This is looking in a book for SRi 2.0T ( Should all be the same)

Not quit right in case of facelift dash: on the left you have the oil-can in orange circle (=oil-pressure) and in the upper right corner you have the underlined oil-can (= oil level)

Yeah, that one caught me out. The one on the right came on while I was going down the motorway - the red oil can with a line under it, nearly sh*t myself! Stopped, turned the engine off and on again, it went off and stayed off. Checked the oil seemed to have enough in it. When I got home I reliased it was only the level light.
It seems to come on when your about 1/4 left on the dipstick. My pre-face did the same. But that was a big orange symbol in the middle of the rev counter if I remeber rightly.

Its the check oil level light , dunno how much it is between min and max , but i just throw a litre in and out it goes for another 4k

All vauxhalls are 1 litre between Min and Max mark on dip stick.
