    Default Pulling to the left

I have an interesting problem with my wife’s Vectra.

It has always pulled to the left from the day we got it. Not badly but enough if you let go of the wheel to be noticeable.

Since that time we have changed from the 215,50,17’s on standard SRI wheels to 235/40/18’s in 6 spoke snowflakes. All seemed fine for a while till I drove the car and notice the pulling was much worse. I said to the wife and she said it had been like this for ages…!

So First thing I checked was the tyres all of which are on the right way etc which they are. I then had the tracking sorted. Which helped a bit.

A few weeks later she said it was pulling again. I checked and found the back passenger tyre had a nail in it and was losing pressure. I had that fixed and the tracking checked and fixed again (It was marginally out). The result of this is the car is still pulling to the left just as bad!

So what do I do next…?

My thoughts are to jack the car up and check for movement on the wheels (12/6 and 9/3 positions) to see if there is a track road end issue etc.

If they are fine should I then change the wheels round (rotating them from to back and left to right?).

If that doesn’t work I guess I need to look at springs etc (of which I know one was replaced on the rear when we bought the car as it had snapped but can’t remember which one).

Any other thoughts of what to check or what may be causing the issues?

Are you sure the car hasn't been in an accident?

Get down to your local tyre fitters and get the tracking/allignment done on it, properly. Some of these places do it properly, and it worth getting a proper computer assisted laser alignment.

yeah.. that was my worry but I have had it checked for accident repair etc and nothign showed up.

The tracking was done using a 4 wheel alighment lazer computer system which I looked at also to confirm (and not just go on their say so). It was re-tested after also to make sure it was spot on.

right. Off out into the rain to check the tyres for movement when jacked up 12/6 and 9/3, Going to swap the wheels also (and check the springs at the same time). Im going to look at the breaks for wear also as a stickey caliper could be at fault also.

I noticed tonight that when i let go of the wheel while cruising the pull still happens but is not as siver as when accelerating or breaking. Gental breaking causes some pull with hard breaking causing excesive pull. the same is true for acelration.

Looking back at the MOT I see that it was the off side front coil spring which was broken. Im suddenly wondering if they fitted a cheap normal spring to the car and not an SRI one. I know they only swaped one...! Could this cause the pull to one side?

Anything else you folks can think of...?

would it not be knocking going over bumps if the drop links had failed? There is no noise from the suspension. Just the excesive pull.

Springs should always be replaced inpairs, poor jump if only one has been replaced. it means one will be weaker than the other and its also possible the other one is borke/snapped.

Also could be worn joints on the front wishbones or even a bent wishbone.

    mileage?
    Age of car?
