    Default SMD confusion

I've just attempted to change the 0805 SMDs in the steering controls and it's confusing me why it's doing what its doing. I've done it in accordance with Lee's how2, triple checking I've got the polarity correct on each one. Testing it, the LEDs don't illuminate but the scoll wheel works fine, and if I plug it in back to front, the leds light up (which they shouldnt) but I lose function of the scroll (which i expected due to it being back to front). I switched one of the SMDs around so its the opposite of the how2 and it didnt work either way, proving that Lee is correct.

I'm right in thinking that the anode (+ve) is the non coloured, base of the triangle, and the cathode (-ve) is the green, pointed end of the triangle on the back.
    Help please!

That should be the correct polarity! If i remember correctly BOTH controls have to be in for the L/H to work, not sure if you were aware of this, it caught me out a few times. I think the steering controls are the hardest part to do. Triple check the connections as i seem to recall that those are connected in series i.e. if one connection is bad the whole lot dont work .

If the diodes are in some way wired in series, then wouldn't you have to have both facing the correct direction before they will work? If you have only turned one round, then the one connected incorrectly could still be stopping the current flowing.

    Edit: Beaten to it!
