Default Vectra 2.0 DTi - Poor MPG

    Hi all,

I'm having a problem with my Vectra. It's giving me quite poor mpg since I bought it in October.

The GID is saying I'm averaging 29.7mpg.

I'm getting 43 miles out of £10, using the trip computer thing.

I've got another DTI in the family which is getting 60 miles from £10.

This is based on £1.38 per litre.

The car service light was on and it said 31000 underneath it a while back. I just reset it.

    Any suggestions?

Has it had a service then, other than resetting the service indicator?

New oil and oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, clean boost sensor, check tyre pressures at 36psi all round. Is water temp on the dash getting up to 85oC on a normal run?

All these things will help improve fuel economy, and a light foot on the gas pedal.

Do you get much smoke? Could be running rich due to a MAF sensor having to much build up on it.. Are you down on power?

My Current Astra SXi 2.0DTi which is the same engine as your Vectra gets - 80miles to £10 worth of the old dirty diesel... however i didnt think the 2.0dti where very good mpg wise in comparison to my old 1.7DTi astra which was just epic on mpg...

As said give it a good service maybe run some diesel treatment through it i did this on my DTi and after a few fill ups it was brill

Sorry i missed it, i really do think its the MAF sensor that is too dirty. It doesn't read the right air figures and in turn you get bigger fuel to air ratio, which causes smoke, less MPG and loss in power. Are you able to hook it up to a diagnostics toll? this should lead you to the problem.
