Below is a Picture of the A74m when I was heading to Edinburgh for the weekend. We went up in my mates 06 330msport and at this point he had to drive at 35-40mph as was just sliding all over the show but we got passed by a couple of newer 320ds and couldn't work it out why the weren't sliding about like us. I'd say the went passed at about 60-70. The only reason we could come up with was they had winter tyres. Do they make that much of a diff?

Narrower tyres maybe? I imagine the 330 has wider rears (possibly staggered) than the 320d

Wonder if that would make that much off a difference. Yeah they are staggered. We didn't think of that at the time.

Yep that might be it then buddy, narrow tyres are better in the snow. Wider ones spread the weight more so the tyres sit ontop of the snow more, narrower ones cut down into the snow contacting more of the road surface.

Winter tires make a massive differance, you get a lot more grip and control, first time i had winter tires on my car was last year and it eas night and day the differance, now i will always get winter tires when the season comes. BMW have there own special winter tire, you can find videos on youtube and it shows the differance in your control on snow and ice.
