    Default Fuel Gauge

    Hi

Filled up my CDTI 150 this morning to the Brimm and set off on an 80 mile drive, the fuel gauge went 5mm past the full mark (further than ever before) and has stayed there since, the range reading on the centre console is showing 860 miles (i wish).

The needle responds to power off e.g zero`s with ignition off but returns to position way past full with ignition on, despite having driven 80 miles this morning.

Can anyone help please - sender problem?

    Many Thanks

Give it time.... mine's done that many times... seems to be using nothing and then suddenly you'll 'use' a quarter tank just popping to the shops 5 minutes away.

    Thanks for the response

I am more concerned about the fact that the needle in the `full` position has gone a good bit further round than in the past, normally it just rests slightly past the full mark but this is 5-6mm past this line

    Thanks

I'm guessing the float in the tank may be stuck , sure continued usage as the fuel drops it should work its way loose.

Fuel gauges are terribly inaccurate at best of times. I had a Reliant Scimitar that would use half a 20 gallon tank in the first 150 miles, then get 350 miles from the second half tank.

That could be down to a few things? I beleive the range is held over from the previous drive, hence if you start the car from cold, the range will drop significantly, or if you have suddenly become a bit heavier footed.....
