    Default water in clutch.

    Hi all

I'm posting this in behalf of my farther, He has a 2005 1.7 cdti astra, and was going to see my ill grandmother.

Anyway he ended up driving through some fairly deep water , knee high when stood outside the car.

The car stalled when the water got so high. He managed to push it out and get it running again, drove home 30 miles , next day car will start in neutral but won't go into gear, start it in gear with the clutch depressed and it start to move the car.

Anyone have any ideas ? , im assuming a new clutch ?

Friction plate will be stuck to the flywheel, could try starting it in gear but with the clutch depressed ( it will want to drive off/stall etc)

sounds about right to me as well ,the last car I did with the same problem I started it in first , drove it down the road & managed some clever footwork to press all 3 pedals at the same time , sharp cracked it loose & was fine after that .

Stick it in 2nd and start the car to get it going, then depress the clutch and see if you can sharply get the revs to rise. Hopefully the little jolt should free up the plate from the flywheel and return to normal.

I would maybe go through all the gears on a 20 min drive to make sure the plate and flywheel is clear of whatever is still there tthat caused it to stick in the firstplace.

    Not a problem
normal clutch use should clean the flywheel and clutch up anyway
