Hi All,
If anyone can shed some light on this I'd be eternally grateful.
Just before xmas my 57 plate Z18XER LPG conversion started running rough, lost power and the spanner light came on. Took it to a local garage and the guy diagnosed burnt valves. He reckoned it was because I hadn't been using flashlube. While he was in there he also changed the timing belt. So, some time later and £800 odd lighter my car was returned but still not running right. Can't maintain 70 on the motorway if i come up to an incline and pulling away from traffic lights can be measured in what feels like months- not quite that bad, but really no where near the power it used to have.
So i took it back and forth to the garage and he was cleaning filters (which I now understand to be the solenoid filters) but with no improvement. The last time I took it there he claimed it needed a new section of the exhaust and replaced that (and lightened my pocket of 90 quid), but again it has made no difference.
So I bought a code reader, haynes manual and started doing a bit of research on t'internet. The codes coming up are p0011 and p0014 which means that the camshaft timing is out. Thus, I'm wondering if it is the solenoid valves that need replaced. I've read on a couple of posts about removing the filters which I did today- albeit just the orange ones rather than the end black one- and while it sounded better when i started it and it seems to idle better, the performance is still crap and the spanner light came back on. I've not had a chance to check the codes, but I'd imagine it is probably the same ones given the symptoms are the same.
So a couple of questions:
For people who have replaced solenoid valves before, what codes were you getting before doing so, were they the same ones?
Is it worth me buying new solenoid valves to cancel out that line of enquiry?
Could it be anything to do with the fitting of the timing belt?
Would it be worth taking it to a vauxhall dealer to get it diagnosed?
Many thanks for reading through my magna carta esq post, and any help/advice would be gratefully received.
