Default Petrol in a Diesel 2.2 Signum

Hi all, I went to buy an 04 2.2DTi Signum on Saturday. I took it out for a test drive and broke down.

All the symptoms point to petrol in the diesel engine. They are looking into it at the moment.

The question is....... Shall i still buy it? What damage will it have done?

    TIA

If it was me, I'd walk away. Plenty of other ones available on the market.

It can damage certain seals for one, and a bunch of other things I can't recall instantly - possibly the seals in the fuel pump which is mega expensive. Potentially lots of ££££ to fix. Sure, they can fix stuff before they sell it to you, but what if they miss bits and you have problems later - are they going to cough up for further work then?

I'd walk away and start looking for another one personally.

Could damage the pump for starters! Petrol doesn't lubricate as much as diesel so there could be all sorts of problems... Having said that, you could insist on a warrenty if you are to take it! Say 2 or 3 years, just a though.

    Thanks for the replies

The reason i still wanted it is because it was an Elite with the Travel Assistant (some Elites don't seem to have it) and also an Auto.

I can't find many auto diesel Elites with the Travel Assistant.

    85k Miles for £8k

    Was I being done?

    Cheers

    Agreed.

Dont touch it with a barge pole.

As others have said, plenty more for sale out there.

The details of the car sound a wee bit "pricey" to me to be honest.

Not bad price at all. If you can get a 3 year warranty with unlimited claims and a good £5000 claim limit you might do well

Would say another £2k and you'll get a good 1.9 CDTi with all the extras too?

TBH I asked for advice on here before when looking for a Vectra, on a whole I was advised against the car I ended up buying and 6 months on & seeing what else is available I wish I hadn't gone on the basis of "I want that one".
