Default facelift vec, yellow steering wheel light with exclamation mark on startup

father in law has a 2008 1.8 sri, not had it long, but just noticed with the ignition lights a yellow light of a steering wheel with exclamation mark, this then goes of with the rest of the ignition lights when started. it hasnt come on when driving yet, is this normal, or pointing towards an early fault?

Either the Alternator on its way out or the ABS plug under the bonnet needs pulled out and given a clean. Get a multimeter over the battery to check the voltage.

It's normal as long as it goes off once the engine is started. It's something to do with the electronic power steering

It's not normal on the pre-facelift.

I had this on my pre-facelift. The power steering fluid level was low. Topped it up and all was fine.

No all Vecs and signums (except the 2.8 v6) have ehps. The facelifts show the warning on startup as it has separate lights for all of the systems where as the preface has a window in the rev counter that shows different faults
