Accelerator, Batery and water!!!

Ok so im having a rather bad day today, i was just on my way to pick up my brother from a party when i drove onto a flooded country road at about 40 MPH.. water went everywhere, drove for a while and had a spanner logo on my dash come up, along with a traction control logo, car was down on power so i pulled over. No reaction from accelerator at all, popped the hood to see what up and found a bit of water around the car battery area. turned the car off and on, no luck.. disconnected the battery then reconnected it, start the car, engine still at about 14 hundred rpms and no response from accelerator.. pumped the accelerator pedal a few time and it started working, drove for a while, and when i got to the place i turned the car off and back on again, errors were gone, but i was left with a SAFE message on the centre console clock... So. the car is working okay apart from a squeaky noise when accelerating, but i cant use the radio and the safe command is still there.. any ideas? Thanks.

EDIT: i think it might just be the radio wanting the code because of me unplugging the battery ? How do you type it in?

The numbers will input code. 1 for 1-9 2, 3 and 4 same. That what i think,

Check bely isnt wet as water getting there can cause belt to slip. Overnight, if cold, check engine ensure its dry. If wet it be cold and not ideal wet at cold start. Check every area that got soaked for connections/plugs as water carry contacts between pins in plugs. Also check fuses to make sure none blew a fuse.

If battery got wet chances are water got in UEC and that's screwing the accelerator signal.

plus a whole host of other bits really you need to check all connections etc and do you best to get rid of any sitting water.

get the engine running even if it is on high idle for time being and get some heat In engine bay

I drove around after the incident for about half an hour last night, long enough for it to stop squeaking, all errors are gone now, ill have to start the car later on and ill let you know how she's running. Thanks for your help

Just keep an eye on it. Had an Astra intermittent non start. After investigation it was water inside the UEC

Yeah what critch said, like i said. Can cause ecu to think components failed when water get in connections etc.

Check fuses as well as sometimes some triggered fuse blowing. So worth a check once over.

the safe message is normally when the radio forgets the code, although i've had my battery disconnected and as long as you reconnect it quickly the radio is normally fine

Thanks guys, will have a look, i found the pass card and wanted to put in the code but my on/off button doesn't seem to work ? :S

Pull the fuse for the stereo for 10 mins an try again

Thanks for the reply, im going to try this as soon as it stops raining.. i started the car and had the squeak come back, drove for 5 minutes and it was gone. No problems with the accelerator any more, and no more water around the battery area, double checked.
