    confused Wiper linkage popping off

Has anyone had to replace a wiper linkage? I have an 05 CDTI & it won't stay on!

Can anyone tell me if it's the ball or socket & if it's an easy fix?

    Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem not so long ago mate. It's a splined fitment then screw on to hold it in place. The splines have probably had it. I went and got it welded together However, while this works a treat and it will never come apart again, when the linkage or the motor breaks you will have to replace both

£70 dealer part mate. You can fold a plastic bag over the ball and pop the socket back on, its worked on mine for over 6 months.

The linkage at the motor side is off, I pop it back on, hear a 'clunk' as if it is seated properly, put the wipers on and it pops off!

Ah, i thought you were having problems where the linkage joins the motor. As Rushy said mate, you'll have to visit the dealers

You have to replace the hole linkage, the older type with brown caps fail. The newer type have white caps. Yep dealer is £70, Autovaux charge £50. There is a How 2 for it mate. Try the plastic bag trick, you keep folding the bag till the socket only just pops back on.

I did a fix on this to a mates car at work. The joint that was coming apart was the one at the drivers side of the car.(bottom right corner of the windsceen) I was able to get into and wash out the socket with some solvent to remove all the dirt and remnants of grease and then half fill the socket with araldite put a thin layer of grease on the ball and popped it all back together, the grease stopped the araldite sticking to the ball and the araldite took up all the wear and tear in the socket. When the glue was set we switched on the wipers and all worked perfectly plus the joint could not be pulled apart. I dont know how long this fix would last but when he sold the car two months later the wipers were still working perfectly well
