    Default 2.2 direct not firing

    Hi all.

I'm having probs with my 2007 2.2 direct petrol auto sri estate. A few days ago it was on my drive running fine whilst I got the kids in the car. All of a sudden it just died and wouldn't re-start. The engine was turning over but the damn thing just wouldn't fire.

I left it until the next day when I stuck in a jerry can of fuel with some Red-ex injector cleaner additive incase the injectors were gummed up. I tried it and it started ok but sounded really rough, hard to explain, it seemed like it was firing on all 4 but the sound just wasn't right. At the time I thought maybe it just needed a good run to clear it out as it had just got over some starting issues. I didn't need to go anywhere at the time so thought I'd leave it until I did.

So, yesterday I come to start it and again was just turning over. I kept trying until my battery went flat and I'd run out of swear words to shout at it. Slammed the door and walked off. Some time later I came back to it and took the battery off for charging.

Today, same again. I called the RAC as I'd reached the end of my temper. The end result is that it will need to go to the garage. Its still on my drive until next week when its in to my usual garage. RAC man has confirmed that there is fuel coming through but there seems to be a problem with getting a spark.

I had both fuel pump and coil pack done within the last 18 months/2 years.

So what can it be? My hunch is coil pack again.

Possibly the chain but they tend to go when you turn the key as apposed to it running. Take the cam cover off and check there no slack there and that the timing marks as all line up.
