Dave
mate,
having thought about it, my money is on a noisy turbo bearing.
So why cant you hear it when revving in neutral/park?
that could be because there is no load and therefore the blower is not building up much boost.
So, if this bearing is causing the slight noise, can this bearing be replaced?
Will the turbo fail if not done and what further damage could it do?
Dave
turbos will fail eventually, but normally will whine really loud first (a lot louder than the normal boost whine) thats the time to get down the garage sharpish before it starts to break up inside
And they will blow oily smoke on startup.
I am not saying your fault is defo turbo related but aside from the gearbox, i can think what else it could be
hope you get it sorted anyway mate
The standard turbo kicks in much lower, but torque should be building then. Have you replaced the DMF or clutch ever?
The droaning noise on one of my old Vauxhalls which happened only at a certain engine revs turned out to be a worn exhaust mount under the engine. The rubber bush between the metal angle bracket on the floor pan and the exhaust bracket had perished and the vibration resonated up through the floor of the car and sounded very similar to a worn wheel bearing.
XD a sterling point
At 1900rpm it should be running quit smooth...
