    confused Astra poor in snow.

I had the use of my daughters 1.6 Astra yesterday.
My insignia was having some warranty work done.
I had to collect youngest daughter from school early due to snow.
Her car was awful i got home eventually.
I am only covered third party when i drive her car
    dreaded having a bump.
I thought a front wheel drive with quite narrow tyres would be steady?

Depends on the tyres! If they are near the wear marks they will be hopeless.

I dont know what year Astra you drove, but i have had company Astra's for the last 12 years (Astra G >) and found them all to be excellent in snow. Even driven around 4x4's that got stuck in the past.

I've just spoken to my daughter.
Her car passed the mot last week, but it had an advisory that the near side front tyre was close to the legal limit!!
I am taking it on Monday for at least one new tyre.
I'll pay just for peace of mind.
The car has been pretty good it's a 54 reg 1.6 life.
The tyres are 195 so probably not mega dear.

If it was my daughter I would put a full set of winter tyres on.

Change both. Especially cos they are the driven wheels.

I would pop a matching pair on the front. Then you know that you have the best grip for steering and drive.

    Good advise.
I'll sort it tomorrow. If left to daughter she'd drive around with glazed ring doughnuts for tyres!!!
