Default Lad,s Detailing day. Part one.

Today Fil 4822. came over to my house to try out my Porta Cable and to detail both mine and his Vectras. The weather was not too bad. I had my own thoughts about claying and thought it a little bit over the top........How wrong I was, it is not hard work and I was amazed at the "debris" that stuck to the clay, now I thought my paint work was clean,Wrong again, so any body who has never clayed thier car you will be supprised at the inprovement to the paint finish. We decided to do mine fully after we had clayed them both,it seemed to be a good move to complete one rather than half of each.
What we did to mine was.
    Wash and clean wheels
    Clay
    Sonax pain cleaner
    Megs step 2
    Megs #82
    megs#21 sealent
    Colinite 915.
Then armourall on the plastic trim .
Tomorrow.weather permiting we will clay and seal then wax the wheels, and do the same detailing steps to Phils car. The Porta Cable did make the jos a lot easier and two of us working together as a team made short work of it too. We both really enjoyed what we did today, and look forward to tomorrow. I have taken some photos but intend to take some more tomorrow then I will post the shots of our hard but enjoyable work... See you tomorrow Phil....

Just to back up what Ed has said, if you think you have clean paintwork & have never 'clayed' then think again ! You will be amazed at how much **** the claying will shift. Simple to do aswell.
    See you tomorrow a.m. Ed.
    Seconds away........round 2 !

    Hi guys,

Sounds like a cracking day.........it is hard work but when you get into it and see the dif you're making I find I get to really enjoy it......sounds like you 2 did aswell

did you try the cellophane test before using the clay?......it's an eye opener for sure

Looking forward to the pics........sure it'll be a cracking job you've done and the next time you come to hose down the car you'll see the water just bounce off

I thought my paint work was ok, it felt smooth, but in reality it was as rough as a bears bottom, but now well both Phil and I were amased at how smooth it is.unbelevable, just as smooth as a babies bottom. Phil you too will have a body like mine nice and smooth and very shiney......... Many thnks to Bryan BLR123 for his advice and words of wisdom.............
Ps the celphhane test showed that my paint was not as smooth as I thought Now it is, after a lot of effort, but it was well worth it.

You have to remember that this is the first time the cars have been clayed and it's part of the BIG detail and you won't have to clay possibly until September..........I clay twice a year (if necessary) pre winter and post winter which is when my car gets a full detail (twice a year) in between I just wash and apply a coat of wax........well usually every week but there won't be any reason to do that.........just a wash every other week and if you fancy it a hose down in between the fornightly wash and possibly a top up with spray wax once a month or so..........as I mentioned my son's car wash detailed in June or July and he didn't wash it for 5months or so just hosed it down every few days..........course that was in summer and you wouldn't get away with that in this weather.

Bryan, I mentioned to Phil that to put a spray wax [ I have used once so far] a good quality spray wax like OCW [it is very easy to put on and take off] after you have washed the car will do it the world of good, if you do not have the weather or the time to put a proper Canuba Wax on, as it will top up the wax till you have time to do it properly. sounds like your advice is slowly sinking in, I one day will hope fully be a mentor like you.....
