Ambient temperature is much lower and people say Diesels take a lot longer than petrol to heat up, but everyone who took the plunge and changed the thermostat found it heats up much quicker, even the non believers.
When it does heat up does it stay at a constant temp or does it fall away when driving, or with the heater on, and rise when stopped in traffic?

    Bet ya!

Bought a Siggy 1.9 CDTI 150 Facelift... Nearly froze to death. Changed thermostat and now it warms up quick, stays at 86 ish degrees all the time and heaters are mental hot.

My vvt warms up to operating temp no probs normally. In this weather if I go over 60 on the motorway it also gets up to temp no probs, heaters are hot etc.

However I've noticed in cold conditions if I then go on a smaller road doing a slower speed around 30mph the temp will actually drop down, particularly within the first few miles of setting off Is that normal?! I have the fan on hot if that makes any difference?

    I don't have any other temp-related issues...

I tink the electric thermostats on the VVT's are very sensitive and hence the changes in temperatures of the engine, if you continued to drive at the slow speeds the temp would come back to the 90 degrees.

If you look at the How 2 I completed on changing the thermostat, you will see it is operated by a solenoid rather then the slower moving traditional wax type. I think the solenid operates quicker then the wax ones, thereby giving the sudden drps when channging the driving speeds.

Cheers! I tried it today and it seems ok, once up to temp it stays solid at 90 degrees. It seems if it's not fully warm it can drop down when the heaters are on.
