The paint can handle down to about -120'C
The engine should be able to down to about -170'C
However, the main issue will be the freezing point of the fuel

I was driving around one of my previous diesel cars at -17'C in 1995
However, the main issue was that the fuel at petrol stations had frozen in the under ground pipes

Battery is the most common thing to cause problems in winter. Most modern cars insulate the battery to help protect it from the cold. This can happen at -10°c. But this can also cause many other problems to do with electrics other than battery, such as screenwash, frozen engine due to insufficiant anti freeze, electric handbrake failur etc. Thats according to the AA. http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice...batteries.html
