sluggish start up

hi guys after a bit of help/advise new to change glow plugs....
well i think thats what i need to do engine somethimes on start up is very sluggish low revs nothing on peddle to try reving the engine just low revs just about running close to cuting out.. noticed the little symbol only comes on for a second( during these extra cold mornings.. just have to sit there and wait for the engine to come to life by itself.. battery is good never had any problems with it.. and reading through several posts on here.. the finger points to the glowplugs... oh and i dont get any engine managment lights etc ..
so any advise would be great.. location on plugs tools needed or just ideas on what it is etc

Which engine you got Fella? Guessing a CDTi 120/150, or DTi 2/2.0

Does it start any quicker if you cycle the glow plugs three or four times before starting it?

sorry 1.9cdti signum 150.. if try to cycle the light comes on first time couple seconds then does not come on again... or if it does its only its the same time span

Does sound like glow plugs, especially if you've started to notice it more in these colder months. I recommend getting the engine red hot before you attempt to take them out as they are prone to snapping. Happened to me but luckily it popped out after 6 weeks, fingers crossed it won't happen but just letting you know, good luck!

Update today car started with pre heat light stopping on for longer misses take daughter to school car gets up the road then cuts out .. LOw revs and nearly cutting out she switches engine off then tries to re start no pre heat lights and back to sluggish start again.. I have just been told maybe crank sensor gone.. Need answers if any body knows what this problem is .. Gonna see if I can get booke in to go on codereader see what comes up but if any body has had this problem and solved please help me thanks

Mine was very spluttery when starting and took a while to burn of access fuel. I was getting an error for a few seconds as well and then went out and once the code was read it was glow plugs. Turned out 3 out of the 4 were knackered and I only thought it was 1 that was failing. Just be careful taking the old ones out as they can snap very easily. I just used plenty of WD40, sprayed onto them and let them sit a good 1/2 hour and then cracked them and spaying them every couple of turns and tightening them back in and out to get the threads inside lubed up. Don't forget to do it with engine warm as they will come out easier. Some guys put copper grease on the threads of the new ones before putting them in, I forgot to do mine but hopefully I wont need to change them anytime soon
