3.0v6 cdti 183BHP 06plate loss of power.EGR valve suspect

Driving back last night on a 150 mile round trip the engine started to loose power but still keep up with traffic at motorway speeds.Engine management light came on 5 miles from home,got to within half a mile of home and lost all power(not able to get up a short but steep hill),engine still ran on normal idle speed but could not pull away even on flat road.After waiting for recovery for several hours i managed to start it and drive back home with engine light on but no noticeable fault present.Took it to main dealer for diagnostics this am,various faults pointing towards the EGR valve,although they could not be sure!Parts not in stock so coming from factory & car booked in for next week,currently driving ok since but only done30 miles so far today.Has anyone had this or come across the fault before,Tony.

Had a similar problem a few weeks ago. Independent looked at fault codes and it pointed to EGR faulty. Had it replaced and all fine now apart
from a split turbo hose!! Didn't lose all power though, just wouldn't go above 3000rpm.

Thanks,the technician said it looked like the EGR had been completly jammed on the various codes that came up,fault not present since last night,during diagnostics or driving.Lets hope stays ok till Monday as got to use the car for the next 4 days!

Mine actually kept repeating that the code was there but not present? After replacement codes show nothing so obviously it was on its
way out!!

Did you pay 300£ to replace EGR on Z30DT?? Man, you`ve been robbed

Not unheard of a v6 egr valve. Low miles?

can't comment on price no idea how much they cost just egr isn't to bad to fit 1hr tops

It sounds very much like the initial symptoms of EGR Valve failure
However, it on mine (Y30DT) it was the Emissions Warning light that came on once the engine was hot
On initial activation the EMS Warning light would come on and then engine put into Safe Mode, but after this it was just the Emissions Warning light that was left on for two days

As with all sensor failures, they start off erratic and can normally be left alone until it becomes more permanent, and on mine it took nearly 6 months before it was occuring consistently after the Emissions Warning light had cleared

You are looking at less than £170 for the EGR valve (part only) on the Z30DT

Yep the part number & price is v0097356078....£135.00 Main dealer fitting quoted at 1.2hrs because the two lower bolt are not easy to reach it means the inlet manifold needs lifting,hence an extra £8.00 for sealant & gaskets. All fitted now ( Tuesday Pm,seems ok so far) The valve was found to be stuck open when removed,the fault showed up again 4 days after initial problem & again on drive to garage!
