Default Car takes ages to warm up....whats the issue??

Its a 2.0 DTI 2005/05, it just seems to take an age to warm up.

Does it need a new thermostat?? Once warm its OK but takes a while to reach temp.

    Bye bye Vec B

Is it just doing it in the cold weather?

All diesels are like that. None of mine were warm till I got to work (about 5 miles).

No, its not just the weather, the other day with rain and temp outside around 4-6 degrees, it took near 15 mins to warm up, I was shivering my nips off.

Although diesels naturally run cold, if it's taking forever to get to around 80-85 when static and then dropping when on the move, my money's on a dead stat.

Not overly sure how that managed to get in the Electrical & ICE section though.... unless you're getting ice in the cabin it's so cold?

My 3.0cdti takes an age to warm up in this weather - partly I think because the auto dumps it in 5th which means trundling along at 40ish in traffic, means the revs don't get over 1500. Strangely, in this very cold weather, I've noticed on a few occasions that the gauge touches 90 once it is warmed up - all summer it never got over 87!

My GSi takes a while to warm up too. Once up to temperature on a cold day, if I turn the climate control up to more than 20 degC, the engine temperature drops a bit. I cannot seem to get enough heat out of it! I am wondering if it's thermostat time. Paul
