Default What A Waste = But So Lucky .

I am by no means a footballist fan , but if anyone asks , i support Newcastle United as my local team .

But when i read about Micheal Johnson's story at Manchester City , i felt sad and i thought what the heck are you doing ?

What a waste of a chance in a lifetime .

Roughly , the story is that he was taken on by Manchester City about 3 years ago at 21 years old and hasn't played a game with Man City for approx 2.5 years ,

But remains on £ 25,000 / £ 40,000 a week for these 2.5 years depending on which newspaper you read .

He has had a few injuries and he likes to go out on a night time , living it up , quite often

and in the words of the newspaper he has got sumo fat and unfit .

So at the age of 24 , he has been let go early by Manchester City and the remainder of his 18 month contract has been paid in full at the 25 k / 40 k a week allegedly .

My thoughts are that this young lad had his dreams come true at about 18 by being discovered as a talented footballer and at 21 allegedly Liverpool offered 10 million for him and he was on fantastic unbelievable wages per week .

But he has thrown it away because he liked to party and got unfit and weighty .

Isn't being a fit footballer part of the deal when you join a club and wouldn't being unfit be a sort of breach of contract if you can't carry out your duties at a footballer .

What a waste of a chance in a life time ,

But he must have had a good Management team ( not the team manager ) to come out on top with all the money , even though he has hardly played for 2 and a half years and get a severence package .

Who know he might get fit again and work his way back up the ranks

    or he might become a T.V. presenter ... l.o.l.

So , even though Michael Johnson once was heralded as one of the next big talents , he has been let go because

Roberto Mancini and his predecessor, Mark Hughes, both concluded that Johnson did not have the personality to play football at the highest level .

Like i said , i'm not much of a football fan , so this may not be 100 % .

Just thought this was a bitter / sweet story .

at the rate he was paid he'll not go hungry for a while, some might say a waste of an opportunity or a waste of good money.

for me he's not kept his side of the contract and has had that contract revoked so shouldn't have been paid for the time he would have been on contract.

im not a football fan in anyway so for me they are all a waste of good money. £1k per week max is more than enough to live healthy/comfy.

    sorry if my comment offends

Been there seen it bought the tee shirt. not personally as a player, but as a coach. It is very frustrating when you come across a very skilful player, but his head is up his arse. No matter what you tell or try to teach them, you know nothing and they know it all. Yes it is heartbreaking, even soul destroying but if they will not listen then you would be better hitting your head off of a brick wall. It does not stop you trying, but sometimes you really do despair. The 2 big names that spring to mind are Paul Gascoine, and Joey Barton, maybe even Eric Cantona brilliant talent but something missing between the ears.

What a sad story - I've been up all night crying for the lad. He wants to come and live in the real world where people daren't put the heating on and cannot afford to feed their kids properly

It must be nice being on £ 40,000 a week and having to do nowt .

By the way that is £ 2 million and 80 thousand pounds per year , if my sums are correct .

Then times that by 2.5 years of being on the bench .

He either had a very tight contract ( whether he plays or not ) or a damn good personal manager to get away with it for all this time other wise wouldn't he have been set free earlier .

Some might say , that if he knew his contract was solid tight , regarding the old £££'s then he might have stopped trying .

He was let go early , but was paid the remaining 18 months cash from his contract .

Imagine going to work tomorrow and handing your notice in to the boss and then saying , by the way , i want the next 18 months cash please , we all know what the boss would say , don't we ?

Like i said earlier wouldn't his weight and unfitness be a sort of breach of contract as a footballer ?

If we didn't perform to the correct ability in our jobs we would be demoted or let go ?

    P.S. = i agree about footballer wages .

But then we'll get into an off topic debate about soldiers , nurses , firemen , etc .
