    Default Its tyre time!

have just been out looking at my tyres and have notice i only have a couple of mm left until the markers and unfortunatly its all four corners! currently i have the goodyear eagle nct5 215/50/17 91w. is this actually a good tyre should i replace with the same? i personally think they have a bit of road noise but could be just me. would it work out much cheaper to order them online and get someone to fit them or be just as cheap to go to a tyre place.

    cheers

In my opinion the Nct5 is a high mileage tyre there is sportier tyres available,i use Toyo T1R's these are brilliant for the price paid. The only problem with buying them online is getting them fitted, some fitters see it as easy money, others see it as a lost profit and won't fit them, best tip is find someone first.

i think i will just go to a tyre place it looks like its going to be nearly 500 pound for all four! i`ve just measured and i have 4-5 mm of tread left. considering i only do 100 miles a week, roughly how long will they last

    Hi Scott,

With 4/5mm left and only doing 100miles per week there is still a fair bit of life and grip in these tyres yet, although as they wear down grip does get less and at this time of year you may want as much grip as possible but I wouldn't change them just yet but wait until you reach the 2mm by which time you will be into the better weather........that's what the wear indicator is for eh

    Bryan

PS and I would replace them Michelins..........course working for Michelin I might be just a bit biast eh LOL!!

100 miles per week, 5000 miles per year
You shouldn't be going through tyres all that fast, maybe two every 18 months
The trick is to swap the tyres rear to front as they wear, then you only need to buy and replace the front two

I think the Good Year NCT 5 215/50 R17 is way over priced (£150 each fitted) and very poor as a high mileage tyre, as I am only getting 20K miles from them, compared to 40K miles on he 205/55 R16s on the Vectra B and Mondeo

    I am looking at :
Michelin Pilot MXM HX 225/45 R17 £117 (my preferred choice as I had these on the Vectra B and Mondeo)
    Michelin Pilot Sport 225/45 R17 Z £125

Since your existing tyres are 91W you don't need the Extra Load (XL or R) tyres

T1-S are a summer tyre, they don't deal very well will standing water. The T1-R is a much better bet. my last quote for 17" T1-R in 235/45 was £120 per tyre, fitted, including VAT.
