Default My latest project - Snowflakes

Well I was bored a week ago , so scouring eBay as you do , I spotted a set of 19" snowflakes.

To be honest I was looking for some more XP2 alloys but the set below came up in the search engine. All I wanted was a set of wheels to throw on mine and the wifes cars as I refurbished our 2 sets of XP2's.

Some useless information for you but you can fit 4 snowflakes with tyres on in the boot of a signum without having to adjust anything.

So anyway got them home and got to work on prepping them

As you can see from the first 5 pictures they needed some work to sort them.

Then after 3 coats of etch primer this is where they are at the moment , I have ordered the paint for these as wanted to go a slightly different shade than I normally do , basically to give me an idea how my XP2 's will turn out. I am not planning on keeping these wheels for long , just long enough to refurb the other wheels and then they will be gone.

So.....the next installment hopefully at the weekend , weather permitting.

Basically I have sanded them back to remove all the old clear coat and filled with an alloy filler , flattened again , then 3 coats of the etch primer rubbed down between coats to try and remove any imperfections.
The secret to getting the wheels looking good is the prep work , that will hold you in good stead for the rest of the job , take your time. Thats why I bought another set of wheel as I usually rush to get them back on the car. I would also suggest using a good 2K clear to finish them , not only is it quicker to dry but a lot harder wearing than lacquers you buy in aerosols.
Also , if you have the opportunity borrow or buy a compressor , it is so much easier than using rattle cans.

Looks a good job mate, certainly lightyears better than the refurbs that car dealers try to pass off!
