    Default Vectra C immobiliser system

does the C use the same system as the vec b with a chip in the Key , the only reason i ask is because neither of my two keys has a chip in like my veccy b did
and it starts , were as when i removed the chip in my vec .b key the engine would just turn over and over but not fire up .

Yeah kind of, but the chip is part of the board not separate like the B's.
In fact the C's system is far better and more secure than the B's, not surprising really, a lot changes in a short time with electronics now a days.

My dealer had leaflets on the desk for a vx aftermarket thatcham cat 1 alarm system....about £295 iirc. Bit of a swindle if the car's already got one!

its all car made after 1998 it will have a cat 2 imobilizer factor fit as statard, but not vans
so if your car is made after 98 it will have a cat 2 imobilizer so you just need a 2 to 1 upgrade
that where vauxhall gets there £295 from

some models will have a full cat 1

if you have a factory fit immobiliser and that includes the vectra b and c and astra g and dont have a factory fit alarm then you have a cat 2 immobiliser,if you have an alarm as well then you have a cat 1 alarm/immobiliser

if you have a alarm fitted after you have to fit the right one and you cant fit it yourself

the alarm must to on the aproved list "keep your paperwork"
if you dont have the paperwork for the 2 to upgrade you need to get a letter telling your insurance you do have the right alarm fitted and this is ok for your insurance.

most alarm company will do this for you but your going to pay them for there time.

remember if you have an older car , the alarm may no longer be on the aproved list if you have the paperwork your ok
if not its not cat 1 any more

there is an upside to this if you get the letter from a alarm company your insurance may still take it as ok to have as cat one
