Default Correct power steering fluid for vvt compact EHPS?

    Hi all

I need to top up the power steering fluid in my '06 vvt which has the power steering reservoir in the engine bay (at the back of the engine) so I think it has the 'compact EHPS'. The level is about halfway up the dipstick at present, maybe a cm from the max mark.

Does anyone know the correct fluid to ask for from the dealer? It's a blue/green colour.

Also is it common for the level to drop? (I haven't owned the car from new so it could have always been like that). This is in relation to an issue I'm having where the steering gets heavier after a few miles from cold.

    Thanks

Also I have the reservoir with the built in dipstick on the cap. The Haynes manual says that the notch on the dipstick is the max level, can anyone confirm this is correct?

Get it from a Vauxhall dealer - if you give them your registration and/or VIN they'll be able to confirm the type. It's not vastly expensive, but the system isn't meant to need regular checking or topping up. In theory it only needs inspecting every few years.

Hi, thanks. Yeah I'm going to call over shortly to get some. I'm the second owner so not sure if the previous owner got it inspected as the car was serviced at an independent. It's maybe dropped a cm from the max level as indicated by the Haynes manual. The car has only 44k on it. The power steering is getting heavier with driving but not losing the assistance completely.

The Haynes manual says the max level is indicated by a notch on the dipstick, there isn't a minimum level indicated so it's hard to know if the fluid is causing my issue! Trying to track it down to avoid paying the dealer a diagnostic fee...

I'm sure its central hydraulic fluid. Halfords sell it http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_255219 but obviously the stuff decks found is way cheaper
